The ticking could be a number of things...like exhaust or wires arching out. Or sometimes the heads just tick in spite of never having ticked before.

Does the engine rev up and idle normally and have you road tested it to see if it has any power with load applied (driving up hills)?

Make sure the oil is full and not overfilled and look for wires arching out...mine used to arch out on the passenger side near the front on a metal engine hook...

Only other possible place that I can think of is the DPFE module on the passenger side. There are two vacuum lines going to it and if they are not tightly on the openings you can get exhaust noises that range from annoying tick to loud drag racer engine noises...

EDIT: Oh, and if you put the belt cover on wrong it may be too close to something...if you have a stethescope (sp) or other listening device you can usually narrow the noise down to location and possible cause. Removing the alternator belt temporarily and running the engine can also help eliminate other possible noise sources...

Clean your room before you criticise the world.
One way to check plug arc is fire the truck up with the garage door shut in the dark and use a spray bottle of water its gotta be pretty dark but spray around the wires and what not you'll see it
