Hey Escort, on page 7 you posted this "completion" shot(before 4wd) of the ranger and you mentioned you're on 35s.

I was reading through to see what you did about the 2wd crossmember because I would like to run 32s and lower than you're at but I'm not sure how to deal with that cross member.

I'm working my way through the thread, up to page 9 at this point and haven't seen a picture of the cross member yet. Do you happen to have one?

I don't think I ever posted a pic of it. I had to cut out part of the crossmember to clear the differential. I'll try and get a pic of it as soon as I get time.

Thanks, that would make my life a whole lot easier for planning purposes. I'm very Type A so I don't like starting a project until I have all foreseeable:)icon_rofl:) problems covered.

I would ideally like to only run 31" tires if I could. Its just an overland rig after all.

Well, I only have 3.5" of uptravel and maybe 4.5 to 5" before the axle will hit the crossmember. If you want to have it that low I suggest removing most of the crossmember, remove it completely, or move axle forward of the crossmember.

It doesn't need much to be honest. But you're right, I'll likely be better off cutting the whole sucker out and weld in a new crossmember close by tucked up.

You just need something to mount the engine mounts to, and can make a new crossmember somewhere where the axle won't hit it.

Yeah, even if I make it out of two DOM tubes tucked up close to the oil pan as it passes over and then plate between them to mount the engine mounts to. That should work.

That sounds like a plan.

Look at my build a few pages back when I built a low profile removable crossmember.

Sorry it took so long. Here are a few pictures of the crossmember. I circled the parts that I trimmed.

Hope that helps some.

I trimmed mine like that originally. It ended up cracking. I plated it with .25" flat stock and that cracked too. I'm not saying yours will just that mine did. I cut mine with a torch though so that might have been why it cracked.
