1994 ford ranger 3.0, 4x4 Truck been parked for about 7 months after transmission blew. just put new transmission in, took for test ride after about 3 miles lost engine oil pressure gadge pinned at 0 and motor started ticking.
sometimes gadge would go up at idle then 0 when i push gas pedal down.
if i shut engine off and wait a few minutes ticking is gone oil pressure good
for a little while then back to 0. changed oil and filter 3 times alot of crud and looks like parts of a gasket came out of pan. engine was fine when i parked it. do you think the oil pump is clogged or goin bad, i think i have to pull engine out to get oil pan off, any one have any ideas?

I dont understand why when i shut it off and restart i get oil pressure back

Oil pump pick up screen is blocked. When you turn off motor the suction goes away and the debris blocking the screen temporarily goes away and allows oil pressure.

There is actually a machine made to back flush engine oil systems, from filter backwards to pump.
Google: Bilstein R-2000

Saw pricing for this at $80 + oil change cost

But you could probably make a similar device with a cut up oil filter, to send a thinner oil, backwards from filter to oil pump, that may push some debris away from the pickup screen and out the drain hole.
Pop the valve covers and use the oil drains to clean out the rest of the oil pan.

You would need to disable spark and turn over the engine a few times, I would just remove the spark plugs, to re-prime oil system once the new oil was in, it would be dry from back flushing.

I did read something about the Ford oil pan gasket sealant breaking off in chunks inside the pan and blocking pickup screens, not sure what engines were involved in that.

Pulling the oil pan would be the best option.
