I am replacing the slave cylinder and I removed the master as well to replace it. I figured it would be a good idea to go ahead and bleed the system while it is out so I wouldnt have to spend so much time cussing and messing with it under the truck. While I was pushing the master cylinder I heard a popping noise and some fluid came out of the slave cylinder.I'm worried that I broke it and I dont want to find out it is junk after putting the transmission back in. I realized that without the clutch there to keep it from over extending, it may have popped out, but I cant really tell. Is it trashed?

My credo
The memories of a man in his old age are the deeds of a man in his prime
You should be able to pop it back together.
Check to be sure the seal isn't damaged and
make sure that fluid didn't spray all over your clutch disk.

It is possible to gravity bleed this system, at least I have done it more than once. Be sure that you have the bleeder open on the top of the slave and bleed the system as a whole. Run a tube into a container same as you would self bleeding brakes. Don't let it go dry. Once you pump the pedal a couple of times fluid 'should' start to flow on its own.

There are write ups in the tech library.

You only need to bench bleed the master and brake line then after you install the tranny gravity bleed the slave.

All that work installing the tranny it might be wise to just put in a new slave they are not that expensive.

The out-of truck, upside-down way is by far the easiest way to bleed these clutches. The best way to do it is to have the bleeder open before you push the push-rod on the master.

That should keep it from building the pressure needed to do what you did. I would check the seal, try to pop it back together, and try it. Just put a brick, or a person, on it and push on the rod, see if it leaks or moves.
