You don't need to spend money or repair anything just yet. Renting the tool will cost you nothing if there's one in the tool rental program (just a deposit that you get back when you're done), and you can read the codes with a bolt meter and a paperclip.

I knew you could read codes like that on a GM, not on a ford.

No idea. In the past i never scanned anything for codes. I just guessed. Usualy did pretty decent to untill here lately.

Even still I picked up a $30 code reader at AutoZone it's pretty slick.
