Reconnect Cargo/Third Brake Light????

I would appreciate any suggestions you may have. I have searched the forum to no avail. My 1996 Ranger Super Cab Splash stepside had a Leer Cap which was removed at my family's suggestion and replaced with a tonneau cover. I want to reconnect the third brake/cargo light. I remove the light and the three wire connection was intact and the bulbs are fine. Where should I look next? Is there a switch? It would have been so easy to disconnect at the light but apparently whoever installed the Kids something else and I am at a loss to figure it out. Thank you for your help

Check fuses first.
Does the dome light inside work properly? Do you have 12V from red to ground at the cargo bulb at all times? Brake light should be hot only when the brake pedal is pushed (I think).
The cargo bulb and the interior dome light are ground switched through either door or the dash switch (should be grounded only when either door is opened). (Roll the dash dimmer switch all the way up, until it clicks.)
