I had bought replacement switches for my '99, then bought an '01. Anyway, how much is involved in replacing them?

1. Remove the steering wheel.
2. Remove the steering wheel rear cover.
It's held on with 2 screws.
3. Remove the ribbon harness from the clips.
4. Remove the horn contact electrical connectors.
5. Remove the right side horn contact.
Remove the screws. Remove the contact.
6. Remove the speed control switch assembly.
Remove the screws. Remove the speed control switch assembly.
7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

If you mean the cruise toggles on the wheel, it is very simple. dISCONNECT YOUR NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL, Take the airbag out by removing the 2 bolts on the side of the wheel (covered by circular plastic caps). Unplug the air bag and remove. Each toggle is held on by 2 screws, remove them, then unplug the wiring. Install in reverse order.

It isnt as involved as the above post, I believe something there was misunderstood

I took that from the Ford service manual. I have done some like you mentioned but haven't done them on a 2001, so you may be right. Before pulling the steering wheel and the airbag off, he may see the screws above and be able to without removing the wheel.

Just pull the airbag off and the screws are right there like hooligan said.

It happens man. I have done it so many times I think I can do it blindfolded lol

Disconnecting Harness

I have tried without success to disconnect the harness on the new switches. Seems there is one tab on each connector. Just squeeze and pull? I don't want to break them and I want to disconnect them before I take off the air bag.

Any suggestions? Just pull hard?

Normally with a firm but gentle tug they pop off. Or use a small screw driver to pry them carefully.
