I recently had my 86 B2 A4LD Transmission rebuilt. When I got it back I noticed a HUMMING sound like i had HUGE mudding tires when I would slow down to around 30-35 MPH. A friend of mine said the transmission place might have hooked up a linkage wrong and it could possibly be in 4WD even tho my MANUAL shifter IS in 2WD because of a vacuum line.. Is that Possible? I know I need to take it back but this info would be nice to have when I do.

Thanks!
Chaz.

No on misplaced or unhooked vacuum line, causing noise

If floor shifter is still hooked up, ??, and set for 2WD then transfer case shouldn't be cause of noise.
Are front hubs manual as well?
Have you shifted into 4High to see if noise changes?

Its manual locking hubs. I have NOT ran it in 4WD yet. It's only in 2WD. guess I can try it in 4WD.

Maybe shop goofed up transfer case linkage when reinstalling trans, and transfer case is not in correct shift position.

Just leave front hubs unlocked, so no harm in running in 4high on dry hard pavement

Well, I'm one of those people who like things the way they are supposed to be.. Even taking off it feels like something is holding it back a bit. I'll take it back soon as I can and Update ya. Might be a while tho!
