Ok I have a 4.0 out of a 04 ranger was wondering if it would go in my 97 ranger with a 4.0 and what all do I need from the 04? Do I need the computer and wiring harness or what all do I need from donor truck? Any information helps. Thanks

I kno it will bolt up Im just wondering if I could use my computer and harness in the 97 or would I have to change harness and computer along with motor

As long as it's still a OHV, I'd just use the block and heads (And exhaust manifolds if they fit. No sense messing with those bolts if you don't have too...)

The 04 will be an SOHC engine, the 97 is OHV. The fuel system is different, the electronics are different. The ecu, harness, fuel lines, fuel tank, fuel pump assembly, as well as other electrical work is needed (04 has pats). The swap is possible, but it'll be some work.

Where you located, whats wrong with the 97 4.0?

Im located in ohio and the motor is blown. I bought it from a guy and he told me that the bottom end stared making noise so he said the engine was gonna blow so he pulled it.
