I am looking to add a class III hitch to my '90 ext. cab Ranger, but all the hitches I can find for my truck are "For vehicles with factory installed step bumpers only" to quote the Reese and Draw-Tite websites (The rest had some variation). Does anyone know what the differences between the step bumper and tube bumper are? I.E., does the tube bumper hang lower or extend further, etc.? Or should I be able to use a 'step bumper' hitch with my tube bumper?

Also, is it possible to adapt a hitch for a 1999+ Ranger to my 1990? Are the rear frame rails the same width?

The frames are the same width, so you can use a newer hitch on your truck.

I think the tube bumper hangs a bit lower and gets in the way. I haven't sat down to measure it out, but I think the curve of it hangs down and gets in your way.

Not that a good welder/cutter cant notch it and tie it in for added strength(the tubebumper I mean)
