Hi guys,

I just bought a 1988 4x4 Ford Ranger. two hours after I paid for it (cash) the clutch started making some noise. I figure some broken springs and probably need to replace clutch disc assembly, clutch cover assembly, release bearing, pilot bearing, clutch linkage assembly and probably the flywheel.

I want to know what else I could take care of while I'm lowering the transmission? will this give me clearance to remove the oil pan? seems to be leaking some oil. I'm just looking for some general ideas to take advantage of removing the transmission.

thanks in advance.

Trans removal will not allow for oil pan removal.

It will give access for rear main seal replacement.

Ranger's use a hydraulic clutch, so no linkages, but the slave cylinder is internal to the bell and should be replaced while you are in there.

I usually change the trans fluid when dropping the trans for clutch replacement.

It might be worthwhile to replace your exhaust manifold outside gaskets and mounting hardware, because disconnecting that Y-pipe makes pulling the transmission so much easier.

Also, you might look into the 4.0 clutch swap; it'll give you a larger stronger clutch, but you'll have to replace the starter as well.

thanks a lot everyone. I´ll take all those suggestions into consideration and I´ll let you know how it goes once I gather all the parts.
