Way to much to pay, and who says you need it, there are a lot of things that can cause low speed stalling, can you be a little more discerptive on whats occuring , like is it also hard starting, weak lights, does it get worse if the lights and heater fan is on putting more load on it, have you had it to autozone for a free voltage, amperage test?

'87 has an external regulator, which should be checked
Remanufactured alternator is $35, which is fine to use

AC Delco new alternator is $55

Voltage regulator runs from $15(generic) to $35(AC Delco)

Simple test is to turn on the head lights and heater fan when engine is idling, if it dies then alternator or regulator is bad.

Best way is to use a volt meter
Engine off, battery voltage should be 12.4 to 12.8 volts
Engine idling, battery should be 13.4 to 13.7volts

The alternator generates the power, BUT.....the regulator turns on the alternator, so it is not an automatic "it's the alternator" issue.
