Hello,
I haven't been on a ranger forum for a while so I thought I'd say hello again with my latest project. I had a 5.0 Ranger for about two years as a daily driver. Now I wanted something a little more unique. I found an SVT Cobra M112 Supercharger and set out to build it so it would fit under the stock hood. Keep in mind this is a splash street truck so no body lifts allowed. :) I built the "upper" intake myself from rectangle aluminum tubing and 3/16 aluminum plate. I thought I was going to have to trim the hood insulation to make it fit but in the end it just fit with no modification to the hood at all. I have many more pics of the project in progress but here is the end result.

Thanks.

Looks good. I'm building two 5.0's that are supercharged, one with an M90 going in a jeep, the other using an M122 temporarily going in my ranger...

The pics look good. The lower looks a lot like mine. I guess there really is only one way to make them. :)

How much boost you running and what size pulley? My M122 has a 2.59 pulley on it set up to run 19.5 psi boost on the original motor, so I'm guessing about 15 psi on mine...

how are you guys controlling your bypass valve? I picked up an M90 recently and was thinking of supercharging my 4.0, but I have no idea how I'm going to work the bypass valve. Sorry for the thread jack

The gm M90, the M112, and the M122 all have bypass valves built in. I'm also getting ready to do a 4.0 supercharged build. I picked up a 97 4.0 to go in project HWW, a 94 xcab 4x4 ranger...

SVT,
That is something I'm working out right now. The original pulley was a 3.25". The problem is on an SVT Cobra the crank pulley is 7.5" whereas the explorer is 6" I started with a 2.8" pulley and as far as I can tell, I'm only getting about 4psi. I'm currently fabricating a 2.5" pulley to try out. If that is not enough, I'm going to machine the crank pulley and put on a 6.5" from an F150. My ultimate goal is 6-8psi. This is a daily driver so I want to keep it mild. I just like having something unique. I need to data log a bit as its hard to watch a digital gauge and drive at the same time. The numbers flip so quickly from vacuum to boost. I have a Zeitronix data logging system installed.

Thanks,
Mike

Brokecanadian,
As for the bypass valve. It is spring loaded closed and vacuum actuated open so, I just hooked up a vacuum source and it operates as designed.

Thanks,
Mike

SVT,
Holy Crap that would make some boost. :) I know with the explorer FEAD, anything bigger than about 6.5-7" would require a smaller water pump pulley as they interfere. I found out something interesting today. I finally hooked up my Zeitronix logger to a laptop so I could see exactly what was happening to boost, rpm, afr etc. I was looking around the menu's and found a MAP calibration setting. My map sensor wasn't even calibrated yet. I was showing -5(vacuum) with the truck on but engine off. Once I calibrated it, its shows 0 when on. It turns out that I'm making Almost 6psi not 3psi. I'm almost right where I want to be.

I'd run a mechanical boost gauge, and wide band O2 on any boosted vehicle. You want as accurate info as you can get under these circumstances...

Mike, how tall is your adapter? I'm planning to squeeze an intercooler in one of mine...
