Well, Happy Anniversary to us!! :yahoo:

Ford has officially announced today that it will be bringing back the Ford Ranger for 2019, the same year that The Ranger Station celebrates it's 20th anniversary.

"We've heard our customers loud and clear. They want a new generation of vehicles that are incredibly capable yet fun to drive," said Joe Hinrichs, Ford's president of the Americas. "Ranger is for truck buyers who want an affordable, functional, rugged and maneuverable pickup that's Built Ford Tough. Bronco will be a no-compromise midsize 4x4 utility for thrill seekers who want to venture way beyond the city."

Ford also announced that the Bronco will return in 2020, and will share the same platform as the Ranger.

That's all we know so far. Ford didn't show off any pictures of the Bronco, but it did say the Ranger would be based on the current Euro-spec model, which is the truck you see here.

Wouldn't it be great if there was a TRS Off-Road package! :icon_idea:

Both the Bronco and Ranger will be built at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan.

It looks to be a lot bigger than the old Ranger, so if they actually do start making the Ranger again they'll once again cut into their F-150 sales.

Trouble is the price they'll be putting on the new Rangers will turn people off.

Funny they make no mention of power train in either vehicle. Going with current mid-size & SUV pricing they'll be in the $40k range yikes.

Well we get the Ranger in 2019 and the Bronco in 2020.
I can assume the Ranger will have an ecoboost, but the diesel would be nice. We will probably hear more about the specs around 2018 or so.

You'll all want to shoot me but I'd like to see a car based 4xr with a usable bed. Like Baja but a bed that fits my atv. I loved my dodge rampage becuase it got 30+mpg and fit the atv in back, but it wasn't realistical for a family of four.

I'd be all over a 30+mpg 4door with a 4.5ft wide 5ft bed.

I kind of like the new Ridgeline but the price is a deal killer, as I'm sure the Rangers will be too

Yes, looks like they will be building the International Ranger T6 in North America.

Well it is a "Ranger", so Happy Happy :)

But yes, also disappointed at the larger size

Oh yeah, and on another note someone break out the Champagne and party hats for the 20th anniversary.

I think a mega thread with a look back in time might be pretty neat.

Here's my bets on packages/power trains*:

XL - 2.5l I-4 Duratech gas; 6 spd manual (there will be one in state/province just to show it is available)
XLT - 2.5l I-4 Duratech gas; 6 spd auto
Limited - 3.3l V-6 gas; 8 spd auto std
opt. 3.2 I-5 Powerstroke diesel; 6 spd manual
3.2 I-5 Powerstroke diesel; 6 spd auto
Wildfire - 2.3l I-4 Ecoboost; 8 spd auto

60% of inventory will be crew cab/5' box; 35% will be super cab/6' box; 5% regular cab/7' box.

Much as I would have preferred a micro truck - loved the Ramage we had in '83 and have bought similar product based off Escape or Ecosport; a crewcab/microbox probably meets my needs better.

And I have been nursing the '98 for a couple years now, so I'll have saved the money to buy one of the new ones late next year. I'll have to clean up the garage so something 3" wider fits.

I was never going to purchase an F-150, so this buys Ford a sale, but I do wonder what impact will be on F-150 sales...

*largely based on Chevrolet's current offerings, but noting that Nissan and Toyota also offer manuals in this class...

WHY DO I KEEP BUYING DODGES?!?!?

I kind of agree.... I keep drooling at pictures of Couriers and Bantams and can't help but wonder why we can't get something like that. The Fiesta platform they were based on is still around, not to mention Focus and Fusion are both available with AWD systems. Hell, in principle, a Ford TransitConnect is a pickup with a non-removable topper.

If I really wanted to move up bigger than a Ranger, there have been plenty of Dakota's that caught my eye for sale lately...:dunno:

The Ford Ranchero, Chevy El Camino, Subaru Brat, and the Dodge Rampage size would be good for many people not quite a truck, not quite a car...it was a Cruck LOL.
