I have a 97 single cab 4 cylinder 5spd. When I am accelerating in first gear my gear shift moves over to the position of third gear but is still in first. And when I hold my gear shift over toward the drivers side while accelerating it pulses toward the passenger side. What could be the problem. I also need to replace my clutch.

I'd start by checking the transmission mount. The part that bolts between the transmission and the crossmember.

I have checked that and I think it might be the gear synchro

Broken motor mount, the whole engine and trans will actually rotate some because of the torque multiplication of 1st gear making it look like the shifter in 1st is now in 3rd.

So it will only rotate in first twitch the amount of torque. But it doesn't do it in second
