'83-88 (Gen I) pedal cages are all the same, but, yes, they are different than a Gen II ('89-92).

Like I said, all you need are the pedals (or JUST the power brake pedal, if you both have manual transmissions) and the booster.

I have a m/c and booster from a 90 4wd ranger.
I just did a quick test fit and it looks like i will need to open up the hole in the firewall to fit the new mc and booster, did anyone else have to do this?

After looking at it, that cover plate just comes off. ford must have just added this plate for the manual brake trucks.
also does anyone what size the stock fittings are on the manual m/c? As I will need adapters to go from the old lines to the new fittings on the power booster that is from a 90 4wd. That's if they do make adapter fittings in these sizes.

ok first off they must have changed m/c in 90, must have been a mid year change, so i have iirc the early m/c
These are the adapters i got, encase someone else needs this info.

3/8-24 female to 9/16-18 male oreilly part number 258302
1/2-20 female to 7/16-24 male oreilly part number 258540

This should work going from my org. 83 brake lines (manual brakes) to the newer 90 power brake master cylinder.
