hey guys, I've been trying to fix a bad fuel sending unit on my 1984 2.0L 2wd. Got a 1986 in-tank pump assembly and I believe a 1983 and they are both different from my old one and both don't fit. I read somewhere that even if I could get it to fit physically the sending unit runs on a different voltage starting in 1986 so it would also not work.

So I'm thinking.. isn't there a way to change both the sending unit and the tank and just hook up the wires?

has anybody ever done that?

cool yeah I'd seen this guy swap out a 1983 pump, it sent me into a weird spiral of buying pumps because he says the 1988 pumps fit an 83 truck and somehow none of the 2 I bought (I think it was an 86 and an 88) fit my the tank on my 1984 truck. there wasn't even the right amount of fuel lines to hook it up to if i remember correctly (did this over christmas)..

My tank is old anyways and who knows how rusty it'll be in there when I finally get inside..

what do you guys think about this, I get an 86 sending unit/pump and an 1986 tank. from there I would only need to find a connecting harness to hook it up and a little bit of research re: which fuel line connects to which pipe. should work, no?
