I have a ’92 Ranger Supercab 4x4, 4.0, A4LD. Can’t seem to find the drain plug on the transfer case. Found the fill plug on the back side of the case no problem and was shocked to find that it was actually full (the PO did NOT maintain this truck). Looking to drain it and put in new however, since it looks and smells old.
According to the Haynes manual (which is completely worthless for this vehicle, BTW), the drain plug should be about 4” below the fill and to the left (that is, toward the driver’s side). Instead, there’s a bunch of other crap bolted on there. Do some of these cases have to be suction pumped out or should there be a drain plug somewhere?
Also, on the other side of the transfer case (the front), there is a peculiar looking hose:

It was dry rotted and practically falling off anyway, so I took it off and this fitting was underneath:

Is this just some kind of breather hose to allow built up gases and pressure to escape the transfer case? That’s the only thing I can figure...
