We still don't have official details about the coming 2019 Ford Ranger, but we're beginning to see some hints that Ford is experimenting with several different cab configurations. Our spy photographers just captured one that could be an oversized regular cab or the more conventional extended cab, which Ford calls a SuperCab. We've heard the cab could house a special storage rack for tools or materials for specialty fleet buyers or it could be set up to accommodate commercial buyers looking for a seat delete or wide-open rear-seat area.

Here's the latest report from our (pickuptrucks.com) spies:

"We got our first piece of evidence suggesting that there will be Ford Ranger SuperCab test trucks being evaluated in Dearborn, Mich. The cab offerings for the U.S.-built Ranger have not been officially confirmed; however, almost all of the U.S.-based on-road testing of the 2019 Ranger have been crew-cab prototypes.

"The Ranger SuperCab sighting comes in the form of a camouflaged body shell resting in a parking area within Ford's Dearborn development campus — an area that serves as something of a burial ground for test vehicles. Vehicles stored here seem to have served their purposes or have been damaged during testing. Camouflaged prototypes, mules and crash-tested vehicles get dropped in the lot before they're carted away — and this graphic-covered Ranger SuperCab shell is the latest one to show up.

"The shell looks like it might have endured some crash or structural testing, as the discarded body is missing portions of its B-pillar, C-pillar and its rear bulkhead — as if the Jaws of Life were involved. We've been on the lookout for a SuperCab Ranger being driven on the streets, which makes this first glimpse of a camouflaged shell particularly interesting.

"The mid-size pickup truck segment is growing increasingly competitive, so Ford's decisions on cab offerings will be fascinating to watch, with massive market implications. If all the Ranger cab-configuration sightings caught in the U.S. are destined for U.S. showrooms, Ford will have the most complete lineup to accommodate all cab segments."
