Here's an odd one, or may not: Brake lights

So, my brake lights are stuck on, along with my ABS light, which i assume is tripped because the lights themselves are stuck on.

I took the brake switch off and checked it with my ammeter, and for some reason there seems to be continuity between the male terminals on the switch, without the spring pressed in.

I assume it works like a motorcycle brake switch and when you compress the spring (by pushing the brake pedal) you connect the wires (in the case, green and green/red) and bingo, brakes illuminate.

I found that disconnecting the wires from the switch turns the lights out, and considering there is continuity between the terminals on the switch at all times, by connecting the wires back to it, they must go on (which they did).

Anyone have any other ideas? The only other wires in the circuit are the brown one, which should be okay considering all other lights work properly, and white one that goes to the main switch... I hope its not that one.

yes, the fuse is okay...

Sounds like a complete diagnosis of a bad switch. Switch is stuck closed. Bad switch. What's the question?

Well dude, you seem to have a pretty good handle on how the circuit works and how to test things. Much better than the average individual.

I would concur with your diagnosis.

ha, I was just looking for reassurance I guess! and/or if anyone has had a bad brake switch on their ranger before, or similar symptoms (brake lights stuck on). Also, everywhere is closed now so I have to just worry about whether any parts stores will have a switch in town tomorrow.

Worse case scenario maybe someone will come across this thread in 5 years.

if the internet is still around then!
