My 99s 7.5" just couldn't take anymore of the 4.0 and popping the clutch haha. I'm gonna get an 8.8 from the junkyard and was wondering what years will work (for the speedo to work) and what I should look for to see if it's still good. Also I can use my 7.5" axle shafts right? Another thing I was thinking or just grabbing a LSD setup since it's the same price where I'm at. Anyway to check if that's still good?

Yes the 10 axle will work, no you can't reuse your axle shafts with an 8.8.

Unless the OP has swapped motors he should already have the 8.8 rear. Believe the axle shafts are interchangeable between the 7.5 and 8.8 with-in common years. The 2010 I believe come with the disc brakes.

The OP has started a copious number of new threads recently relating to his 4.0 swap.

With abusive driving habits like popping clutches, I wouldn't mess with an axle that has 28 spline shafts.
Get an Explorer 8.8". Then you can start popping u-joints (or your transmission).

Haha no I won't be doing that anymore, learned that lesson the hard way. Don't have the money to pay a shop to fab up the spring perches and this is simpler. Will any 93+ work rear end work? I just don't know how the speedo gets mph from the rear end, just know that it does for my year

And yes I see in the pic the 2010 has discs. How would my brake lines and cable hookup?

Do 03s have 31 splines? There's one at the JY (has drums). Also it's 4x4 does it have a torsen diff?

You'll need to spend a little time in the Axle Identification section in the Tech section. Metric butt-ton of info there that could answer your questions.

Okay good stuff on there, only question it didn't answer was how a 99 receives it's mph. I still don't know if 93-97 will work since they didn't get mph info from the rear axle. I know however they are the right width.

Decided to do it right the first time and grab an explorer axle from the junkyard. Truck had 170k and has l/s. Oil was golden inside and the gears looked spectacular. Hopefully the l/s works good. Got discs, the same speed sensor, great buy looking forward to putting it on.
