High mount light on topper

I have an '04 Ranger and I'm trying to connect my brake light on my topper, but what I have discovered is that my brake and turn signal share a wire. This is only an issue since I don't want my brake light flashing every time I turn left. Any sugestions on where to tap in so I can keep the wires hidden and make it a professional looking job. My only idea was to tap into my high mount on the truck, but it will take a geat deal of wire and then I have to find somewhere to drill to take it out of the cab and back to the bed.

Can you tap it into the 3rd brake light?

A lot off toppers run a wire along the roof and have a plug that goes into the light socket of the 3rd brake light. Then you put the bulb, into the topper. All you have to do is make sure you seal up the open the open 3rd brake light, a lot of people just drill out a little hole in the bottom of the plastic and run the wire through the tiny hole with a grommet.

The plug on my topper is at the left rear corner. I would rather tie in before where brake and blinker become one wire.

Brake light switch is your only other option.

Are you wired for a trailer? Why not get a plug and tie into the brake light pin on there? It would easily unplug when you take it off.

Under your fuse box (underhood one) there will be a green dead-ended wire that is just for this purpose. You will have to run a wire from there to the back of the truck and up into the taillight and into your canopy. It is power from the brake switch at the pedal.

The brake wire on a 4 flat trailer harness like I have is a brake bliker combo wire. That is why a converter box is required if you have amber turn signals.

I cannot find said green wire under the fuse box. As was said before, flat trailer connectors brake line doubles as turn signal for each side. Some other forums have talked about converters so you can hook up to the turn/brake wires for both sides, and it will give a solid non blinking top brake light. any idea where these are available?

I have used them before, we have them at work now for doing canopies to save use the time of running wire all the way from the front.

The wire will be under there...did an 08 a couple weeks ago and it was right there.

dark green wire, deadended, with black shrink tube over the end of it.

Okay, maybe I have another issue. I had a trailer hookup installed last year. Is it possible that where he came from he hid it or used it for something else, (though in my 7 pin round hookup he shouldn't have an exclusive brake). Mine is an 08 sport, should it be at the back end or under the fuse box?

If you remove the fuse box it should be in the harness below it.
