Hello all ,
I have a 85 ranger 2.3 and I am having problems with my emission light. Last night driving home (with headlights on of course) when driving the emission light on the dash came on and started flickering, but the flickering emission light made my headlights, dash lights, and radio flicker on and off. Luckily I made it home and this morning I got up and did a voltage check on the alternator just to be sure it was still putting out 14 volts and it was. So I continued on my way to work, when on the highway I hit a bump and the emission light started to flicker again (only my radio was on, but it would turn it off when flickering). I noticed that only when I hit bumps would the emission light flicker on and then turn off a few moments later. I found a good pot hole to test this theory out in and the emission light fully illuminated and then shut off until the next bump in the road.
It sounds to me like I need to check the grounds and maybe there is a short somewhere. I just don’t understand where the emission light comes into play. Hoping someone can shed some light on this
Thank you for the help !
