First off, the truck is an '84 2.8v6. It's got a 5-speed from a '96.

Ever since I swapped the trans, the truck has given me a lot of grief with starting. I've had the battery checked and it's good. All power wires and ground wires are new. Just the other day I put a new starter in since the old one just clicked, I replaced the solenoid for good measure too.

Problem is now the solenoid will only click. Even when I bypass it with a screwdriver it clicks. For the first 3 days with the new starter and solenoid everything was fine. I thought I finally got rid of the gremlins.

Any ideas? I can't keep asking for push starts!

Are the wires hitched up right ? There are a few different flavors of Ford solenoids. Also, what are you using for a fly wheel?

Sounds like it could be a faulty neutral safety switch...?

Yeah, the wires are hooked up right. And there isn't a NSS. I put a clutch in from a 4.0 so it has a flywheel for a 4.0 block.

The thing is, it all worked fine for 3 days with the new solenoid and motor.

Well the solenoid was bad despite being a few days old. Put a new one in and walla.

"New" no longer means "good"!! We, the user, are now most company's quality control section! Put them in the box and ship, the buyer will test them!

Ain't that the truth. On top of all this hassle, I actually had to go to the store twice for the replacement solenoid. The first visit they gave me the wrong part, but in the right box. That'll teach me to check it next time. :annoyed:

I have had to make several return trips to parts store, I tell them its a California model (even tho I am in KY), and bam.... I still get the good parts! no damn it.. I want to pay extra for the craptastical versions please - sick of going back twice for every damn part.

think i need to pull the parts and start taking them with me. now that is an idea huh.
