1999 v6 manual to 88 TC 2.3 swap

still digging through the forum and tech sections but i figured id ask

i have a perfect turbo coupe donor 1988 auto and a 1999 v6 manual with blown head gaskets

i think its 4wd. its an extended cab

will the TC motor bolt up to the V6 manual if i swap to a svo flywheel and clutch or v6 flywheel and clutch?

the idea being to keep the 4wd and the 99 computer

The 4 cyl. and the v-6 have different bell housing bolt patterns and the bellhousings are integral to the transmission. So, no go on swap as stated.

So the belhousings are not bolted to the transmissions like the t5's

I have a 2.3l ranger will the transfer case from the v6 bolt to the 2wd trans?

This is getting out of my knowledge realm. AFAIK you would have to swap tail end housings as well as the mainshaft, then the transfer case will bolt on. All transfer cases in the RBV [ranger, bronco-2, explorer, aerostar] family can swap with the correct shifting mechanism, ie; manual - manual and electric - electric. Electric to manual and vice-versa can be done with a little extra work.

It can be done but for most DIYers I would say no. I am a transmission builder and because the main shaft is longer it would have to be swaped for a 4x4 main shaft. At that rate and amount of work it would be much simpler to buy a 2.3 4x4 unit. Then everything bolts right up. Of course just my opinion.

That is of course ignoring the extreme rarity of the 2.3L 4x4 transmission.

To be perfectly honest, even if you have a ready to go engine, you will have the least time, money, and effort in making this truck run just by putting head gaskets in it.

I would say the 2.3 4x4 manual trans is not so rare. Got on car-part and found 175 of them. I dont know your zip or I would tell you where one was close to you. It took me all of 1 min to find. I wont say they are common but plenty out there and prices look to be around 400$ to 250$ There are some more expensive then that.

I can find 3 less than 100 miles from me, all of which cost more than a gasket set and a set of bolts.
