Radiator fan not coming on?

What would cause my fan not to come on?

Yes it is stock. I looked in the fuse box under the hood and there is no fuse in the space of the blower motor spot? Looks like a few other fuses are missing. But the missing spots only have 1 metal prong in the spot where you plug them in.

Need to clarify : do you mean the radiator fan for cooling the engine (mechanically driven by the engine) or the blower motor that moves air into the passenger compartment (electric)?

inspect the blower speed control resistor, its under the blower motor. they corrode and fail. also the connectors tend to burn up.

Neither fan is coming on. Once the truck temperature gauges gets to halfway and starts to rise the fan doesn't come on and if I cut the blower motor on it doesn't come on either.

You probably need a new clutch for your fan. But what do you mean by won't come on? Like you waiting for it to change sound when the fan engages?

It is very difficult to diagnose a problem on the internet even with good information. Without good information it is impossible. The stock radiator fan in the engine compartment is not an electric fan and doesn't turn on and off. It is mechanical and has a fan clutch that locks up when it gets to a high enough temperature allowing it to spin at full speed. Under normal conditions it does not spin at full speed except when the engine is first started for a couple minutes.

An electric fan could have been installed by a previous owner but that is not stock. The radiator fan and the blower fan in the cab for A/C and heater are not related and should not share any electrical circuits unless someone has messed with the wiring.

If you can make yourself more clear about what your problem is, it makes it easier to make suggestions as to what may be the cause. Right now everybody is taking a shot in the dark.

A fan that is not working properly will usually cause the engine to overheat, especially at idle. If your Ranger is not overheating the fan should be working properly.

The fan that cools the motor down does not come on. The truck will overheat if I do not shut it down due to the fan not coming on. The blower motor fan does not come on when I turn the ac or heat on.

The fan doesn't engage at all.

Both fans are not operating. The truck will overheat when I'm in stop and go traffic. When I get on the highway no it cools down quickly.

Sounds like you have two separate issues.

- Blower motor for the Heater isn't working.

- Clutch on the mechanical fan isn't working.

I would start by replacing the fan clutch, so your truck won't overheat. Once that's fixed, address your blower motor.

If you truck has an electrical radiator fan, you'll need to find out why it's not working; either not getting power or it has a bad motor.

Just checked the resistor and its on good condition surprisingly.

Can you post a picture of the radiator fan? Your answers are just vague/limited enough that I'm not at all clear that you have a stock clutch fan in place.

Open the hood and take a picture of the fan and post it .
The factory fan to cool the engine is attached to the water pump via a clutch. If it is electric it is an aftermarket add on.
