The Ranger is gone, long live the Explorer!

As most of you know, after the adventure that was my first Ranger (the '98) I went on and picked up a '93 Ranger. And it was a great truck. Sadly at 250,00kms it was getting a little long in the tooth. I dabbled in a new car to haul around more people and that wasn't for me. So I split everything right down the middle, sold off the truck (to a good owner) and the car (to another good owner) and bought myself a nice 2005 Explorer Sport Trac Adrenalin.

I had been toying with the idea of a Sport Trac for some time. Enough room to haul people, but still capable enough to do what the '93 did.

I knew it had to be a first gen, then I wanted 02+ for the disc brakes in the rear, then I wanted 04+ to get the rubber floor. At that point I discovered how loaded the '05 Adrenalins are and had to have one. I looked at at least half a dozen before landing on mine. A Dark Blue Pearl over grey leather model.

I bought the truck a couple months ago in Edmonton and drove it up. On the way up the used alternator that was put on it gave up the ghost, so I had one put on in GP. After that it was an uneventful drive home.

Now as you can imagine, I can't keep anything stock. Part of the deal of me selling the Ranger was I kept the tires. All of them, that means the Winterforces and the MTR-Ks will be going on this in the spring. I have a 2" Warrior lift for it. Aww yiss.

First thing I did was get it into the shop (with the Brostang) to swap over the winters.

Much better!

And the Ranger looking ridiculous on the STs rollers. Those Yokohamas sucked!

Immediately I started modding.

I had an old Airaid CAI from a 2007 Ranger given to me, so I went and put that on. I had to buy an MAF adapter since the two truck use different style sensors. I also had to cut down the air box to make it fit, but in the end I got it to work.

I also bought a Superchips Flashpaq to make use of the intake (and future exhaust), plus firm up the shifts. It made a pretty big difference in trans performance.

I've always been a big fan of cargo baskets, and I got this one for christmas from my family. Definitely helped add to the adventure look. This truck was lacking it, and I'm trying to capture some of the spirit of the Ranger.

Here's how the truck looks now. I have a Magnaflow exhaust coming in soon for it and an Aries grille guard that will be a while yet. I'm going to mount a 30" LED bar up on the fairing of the basket. After that, it's probably stay like that until spring when I put the shackles in and do a torsion bar twist to clear the 32s.

Then it'll stay as is to let me get back to work on the Pontiac!

Always liked sport tracs. 3" body torsion keys and a rear shackle toss 35s on and lock it up feont and back. Youd have a very capible small truck to wheel a bed big enough for camp gear and a crew cab still.

I still wanna get one and swap my tons to that...

I've wondered what the adrenaline package consisted of in the first gens. Since mine's got the V8, I guess I've got a mix of a gen 2 adrenaline

Do you know what the adrenaline package has the other tracs don't? I have an 02, I have rubber floors (i think all tracs had rubber mat floors) power everything, no sunroof. As far as i can tell, i think its just a different wheel & tire package, no body kit or anything...

Rubber floors were standard in 04+, but they were a very popular option before that. I have Berber floor mats over my rubber, backwards of anything else I've ever owned!

Mines the '05 pack so it was the end of the run, full meal deal.

The package was a more powerful amp and subwoofer powered by a Pioneer 6CD stacker, Adrenalin embossed leather seats, body coloured bumpers/mouldings and a sunroof. Drivetrain-wise they're the same as any other Trac, it's mostly the leather, stereo and body-colour exterior that made an Adrenalin.

Man Kris, you're truck looks so different since back in the days when I was a regular. It look awesome! :icon_thumby:

For now I'm going to go with the shackles and a torsion twist. Should be enough to fit my 32s with a nice tucked look. I want to keep it decently streetable.

So I finally got around to installing the exhaust. Went on pretty easily. I just jacked up the passenger side of the tuck about 6 inches and set it on some jackstands. The instructions recommend removing the passenger side sway bar link. I didn't do that and it did add a little frustration to maneuvering the pipes around. If the future I would definitely recommend doing that.

The instructions also say to cut the exhaust off just behind the muffler. Take my advice and cut the front off too. It make the job of removing the pipe off the cat so much easier.

When all is said and done the tip comes out at a pretty cool angle. I had a little issue of it rubbing against the bumper cover, but that problem sorted itself out.

The truck now has a nice deep idle and makes a pleasant noise at high RPM.
