I just picked up a parts truck for my blazer it is an 83 k20 longbox stepside. i wondering what gears may be in it. Not that up to date with chevy stuff. The truck is a 4.8 6cyl with a stick and a np208.I belive that the trans is an sm-420 due to it having dual pto's. The best i can tell it has a HD44 up front and a corp 14 out back but i am not sure. Any help would be great thanks.:icon_cheers:

could be 3.73 , 4.10 or 4.56 right off the top of my head.

some of them also came with 3.42s

Probely 4.10's seeing as how its a 292.

Those were awesome old trucks.

later,
Dustin

pull the cover, on the chevy gears they will have a bunch of numbers stamped on them, at the end will be a couple of numbers something like 60 1 90 (not real numbers but you get the idea) divide the double digit numbers, you have a ratio.

got a rare truck there your parting supposedly the longbox stepside chevy is rare

Isn't there a sticker inside the glovebox door? There's a bunch of numbers on that sticker. Give up a picture of it and I can easily look it up.

The 292's were limited in what gears they had in the axles. 3/4 tons had 4.10's, and one tons had 4.56's The tranny should be a SM465. An '83 should have a gm 10 bolt up front, as they stopped using the 44's around 1980. Of course someone could have swapped one in also. My '81 3/4 ton with a 292 has a gm ten bolt up front, a semi floating 14 bolt in the rear, and 4.10 gears.
