A t3/t4 hybrid turbo is putting in about 12lbs Kicks ass
still working on it but its to fun to keep off the street.:icon_hornsup:

Very nice! Now you can help us answer questions from dummies like "is it possible to turbo my 2.9, what parts do I need, and how long will it take?"

Seriously tho, welcome aboard! It's nice to see some other turbo rangers.

What did you do for tuning to run 12 psi?
 
Getting any detonation at 12psi Non-intercooled??? Or are you running high octane?
 
i like your setup ive been looking 4 pics of one. 3 questions, why no intercooler and why did you choose an up high setup like that, why not put the turbo down low and plumb it upwards so you can get to your plugs/etc., and where the hell is your maf?
 
That looks sweet with all the wires hidden. Never thought there was much hope for a 4.0 engine bay... way too much shit running every which way
 
Well Thanks for Looking and YES you can turbo any thing, its just a matter of what level of fabwork and how can you work though problems. The Pics or of my #2 turbo on this truck and yes now its inter cooled was a liquid to air cooler. Yes it has a maf where the inlet is for the turbo and runs to the bed of the truck for a snorkel. The engine is worked over with 9:1 Forged pistons, H beam rods and a custom cam. Still need to do some top end work, but hell how much work do you need to do when you force it in anyway! Its has a ECCV PCM out of a 2000 Explore with custom programing.

And Ya I had the 1st setup Ran @ 293hp @ 19lbs of boost w/ menthol injection
It blow the clutch then the head gaskets! lol It Can Be Done
Still need to stud the heads lol

I will get some updated pics of it with the inter cooler and post them
 
hmm interesting, but the maf needs to be between the intercooler and the throttlebody in as much of a straightline path as possible to reduce turbulence and get a proper sample so you dont lean the piss out of it from poor sampling. im going to do a turbo 3.3 in the future so im looking at your setup for positioning ideas. im going to mount my turbo down low, and as far as my ideas and what you have on yours, to each their own! :icon_welder::icon_cheers:

A blow-through MAF will even more prone to turbulence and sampling errors than having it upstream of the turbo. Placing it between the TB and I/C will further introduce errors in air mass/density measurement that have to be tuned around. The manufacturers like Ford, Subaru, Mitsubishi, etc use a draw-though configuration to avoid these complications.
 
Or you could go speed density and not have to deal with a MAF restriction....
 
every setup is different when it comes to blow thru or draw thru. Some setups may reject or make it difficult to tune one way or the other. Just because the air is pressurized dosent mean there isnt flow when the MAf is blown thru. The air may be pressurized but its still moving along. A speed density system would be nice although harder to tune. As long as the MAF isnt a restriction to the inlet of the compressor I doubt you will see a larger power improvment in going speed density. One con however about blow thru MAF setups is IF the turbos seals start to leak oil into the cold side that oil can coat the MAFs wires which will instanly cause the ecu to lean out the AFR and you could lose a motor. At one time on a single turbo V8 setup I had this happened and to a degree that i coated the MAF sensors wires so much that the car kept stalling.
