My 04 extend cab 5spd 4x4

I put in an order today for some subs (2 15in, and 3k watt amp with custom boxes) they are trying to talk me into 2 10's or 12's I just threw a number up and figured it should be big enough. I dunno. and I may need to go bigger on the amp.... or get two 3k's?

I think I may have allready blown my door speakers... what size do I need to order that will be a good addition with system?
Do we have any other speakers I will need to replace? and what size do I ordr like 5x9's?

I am completely lost when it comes to audio.
btw do I need to order a new Head-Set cd player thingy?

I'm sorry I suck so bad with this stuff, that I hardly even know what to ask, but if I'm going to get this done before too long, I need to tell them the rest of what I want done.

Thank you all so much in advance.

Frank

not to say i am in anyway that into the audio thing i just like what i have in my truck....

what are you going to be playing in your truck? rap rock country...

going with 15s you can totaly write off having more tan 2 people in it unles you have a bench then maybe 3..

the other thing to keep in mind is what you like to hear.. i love rock and country.. 2 10s is all i would ever need for that. once you start to get into anything more than that you better have some kick ass stuff getting those highs in there so you can hear more than just base..

wish i could tell you what you should get but its just something to keep in mind.

I listen to Honky Tonk......... very whiney classic country.

And acid rock.

what year truck do you have. Is it extended cab or a regular cab. With 15's you may have problems with the amount of airspace you need for the subs to perform properlly and can cause damage to you equipment. Let me kknow some info and I will help you out if I can I help do custom installs for comp systems on the side and have been into it for over 10 years so I have a litle knowledge in it.

with your music preferences, id go with a pair of 10s. your going to want subs that are geared towards accuracy. id suggest a pair of idq's or call elemental designs and see if their 11ov's are still on sale for $75.

x2 on the sub size!

i dont really know much about one sub to the next but toatly go with the 10s.
if you go biger you are more likly to get a longer base line and not that sharp hit witch is what i like to feel.

bigger subs = boomier
small subs = punchier

unless you are listening to heavy rap or doing competition... you will want 12's max.

even 12's will probably be too boomy for country.

in all honesty, you could probably squeeze in 2 or 3 eight inchers, and you'd be very well pleased.

if you want 10's though, have at it.

you should upgrade your speakers along with it, check out 12volt.com and it shoudl tell you what size speakers come stock and all the wiring stuff.

don't go with any sony equipment, sorry sony fans, head units you can't really go wrong though.... most of them are pretty equivalent, but i'd say pioneer, kenwood, etc are all good brands.

make sure you set your gains correctly on the amp, make sure you have correct air space etc etc.

you should really learn alot about this stuff before you plunge into it.... otherwise it's not worth it.

the size of the driver doesnt make a one sub tighter or punchier and another boomier. it all comes down to what the driver was designed for. a 15" driver can still be as accurate as a 8". its just that the 15" wont be able to play as high as the 8", but it will be able to play lower frequencies that the 8" cant even dream of. there are other factors that determine how the sub will sound.

for example, look at Fi Audio's lineup. Their FiQ series is built for sound quality.

then they the BTL series that are built for SPL.

Yeah go with some 10's, you will love it some much more and be able to retain some space back there. plus you won't need 3k amps i bet a 500w amp and 10" will work just fine for the bass in your truck... unless you plan on bassing people out down the street. And for your speakers they are or should be 6x8's front and back.

3k watts? did they talk you into buying a legacy or pyle amp? if its a true 3000 w rms amp you will need some electrical upgrades or you will kill that amp from voltage drops.

I don't know, they said what do you want, I just said big. I want to bass people out going down the street.

I figured an altenator upgrade, and a yellow top would have me covered.

My "guy" basically a local pimp (ok an african american man with 28in rims) who befriended me...... lol. Took my list of things and started calling reputable dealers his car is sponsored by. And he is supposed to be getting back to me wendsday with the prices they can do, name brands, suggested boxes, speaker sizes and prices/capabilities, and warranties.

Frank

all the info is extremely appreciated, I may have screwed up and got a stupid big system I can't use, and may still end up killing my amp if I don't figure out what addequitly supplying it and monitoring temps means.

Check out audioque, an AQ2200+HDC12 or 15 will be more than enough bass for you.
you would still need a good alt and good second battery like powermater or kinetik.

not tryin to jack this thread, but im lookin for a h.o alt and a yellow top...i shouldnt need a second battery tho right? with the stock batt and alt rightnow, watchin the display on the caps and with a multimeter on the batt terminals, my volts are droppin into the 11's when idling..and when i turn up the gain a lil more to listen like wen ima at a party or the driveins or whereever i may be, the lowest ive seen it was 10.7...so whatcha think i should do?

You may want to look into a capicator for your amp. Even if you go with something as small as a 500 watt amp it will pull some power. The capicator stores power for the amp so when it hits it has all the power it needs.
When shopping for amps check he ratings. Are they x amount of watts at rms or max? Were they checked at 12.7 or 14.4 volts? Remember some amps you can buy 1000 watts for 200 bucks but right next to it there another 1000 watt amp for 1500 bucks. Most companies good name brand ones, have economical stuff that is perfect for the daily driver. Judge by your post Thats all your looking for. I also would suggest the 10's I hate to say it but maybe even the 8's. You said you would like to bass people out going down the street. Attention is some times great but attention is also what gets you tickets, or broken into.
I would also look into a set or 2 of great quality component systems. Most people fill there extend cab or trunk with huge subs and call it done. When you actually sit in a car or truck with a great staged system It is such a pleasure, All frequencies working in harmony to produce a sound that pleasures your ears and feelings. The way the artist actually intended for it too.
I don't mean to knock you but when you go into a car audio shop. Dont tell them big. There eyes get wide and think they have made there commission for a week or more from you. Do a little research and ask the sales what he thinks about product x. When you have done your research on these items you will be able to find out if he even knows what he is talking about. Some shops only carry certain brands so they are gonna push those brands. Find what you want before you buy anything. Always have a clear concise picture of what you want to do. Plans get very expensive if they change every month. Goodluck
