As you all know these project trucks are a matter of money and time....It looks like the time is finally here so i pulled my '86 out of the back of my garage where it's been since '97.....As for the money, it's sure to be painful.....my plans are....4.0,dana 35,8.8,duff 5.5 stage III,superrunner steering,33's for starters......I've been reading through forums for years getting ideas and I'm looking for advice and moral support to get through this. Thanks in advance for any help.

I am glad you held onto it, even if it did sit in your garage for 12 yrs?!:shok:

I have confidence in you brother! :icon_thumby: Once you get it going again, you will never want it to sit again. If you would like to donate it to charity, I will gladly accept!

good idea would be to swap in an m5od! but i take it thats what u meant by 4L...

sounds like a good start! body doesnt look to bad either!

There cool once there done I still have the 8.8 and dana 35 sitting there once I decided to go with 3.73 don't really want 4.50 for my DD but it works real good just like it is with 4.11 and a lock right front.

Mine only set from 2000 to 09, still not running but most is swapped.
If you have the $$ to work with, I suggest you find an Explorer with as much good stuff as possible for your swap. I found a 92 X with a good running engine and so-so A4LD that won't be used anyway for $500 and have spent another $500 or so on M5OD and manual transfer case plus other misc. parts. I am figuring on having about $1500 in the truck when it starts.
I am in no way trying to deter you from the project, just giving you a heads up of what the $$ might be.
This is what I started with.
The second is where it sits now.
And the Explorer that gave it's all to get it here.

Thnx for the heads up clem......I have 2 explorers a '93 and a '94, the '93 is going to be the doner vehicle, lucky me i was doing a favor by taking it so it didn't cost me anything....which is a good thing since my goal is to have a daily driver that will last 10 to 15 years my $$'s will be spent rebuilding everything to stand the test of time.
