My BIL has a 2003 Chevy Duramax diesel that the speedometer reads now about 26 MPH when you a running 55 MPH. My sister almost refuses to drive the vehicle because she has to run by the tach. You know the deal get GPS and figure out what rpm is what speed. Which we have done already. The odometer works perfectly and I told him to just break down a buy a GPS and use it for speed but he would like me to fix it. Short of getting another instrument cluster is their a quick fix for this problem? I know it is not a big project to pull the dash trim out and install the cluster. He wants the odometer reset to the present miles so I presume the dealer will do this service for a fee. Any suggestion ? Thanks for your quick and timly responses!:icon_welder:

Pretty common cluster fault with those trucks.

Something like a $500 part, from the dealer.

I found a link a while back for a shop that would fix yours for $129+ shipping. Lemme search a bit... maybe I can find it again.

Here's one: http://www.mrwhizard.com/

I searched google by "Chevy truck speedometer repair" and got a LOT of hits. Seems that a cottage industry has cropped up to fix GM's crappy speedos.

Earl43P; Thanks so much for the info called him (Mr Whizard) Tom said that this is a common occurance with the 2003 and he could fix it. His web site says to make sure vehicle is full of fuel and it can be driven. Also that you need to continue to make sure it is full of fuel often but I would drive one sparingly with no instrument cluster. Because HEAVEN forbid something (blown hose etc) goes wrong you could loose use of your pride and joy forever! Just my $ .02

Everyone it was nothing that money couldn't fix sent spedo to Mr. Whizard and he fixed it right up for us. Now it reads out how fast we are really going instead of 30 mph all the time. Would highly recomend Mr. Whizard for your spedo prolems very fast and efficent.
