As most of you know,
Will
Wills' Bronco II started life as a factory equipped SUV, with the 2.9L engine and the D28
front axle along with the 7.5 Rear axle. This little jewel came upon Will one day through
an E-Bay auction. It was just a run-of-the-mill Bronco II that was in awesome shape. Since
he has had it, it has gone through a major overhaul.
Most of the parts that were swapped onto
this little rig were from a previous Ranger Project that Will was working on. So Will went
about to swapping all the goodies from the Ranger to the Bronco, which included the 4.0L
engine along with the transmission and transfer case. Once that Far from Easy
task was complete it was on to the axles. The
D35 swap was straight forward, so was the 3 Duff
stage 2 lift. The 8.8 swap proved to be a bit more challenging since the Ranger
axle is off set. So off came the stock perches and they were moved over to the proper
location for the little Bronco.
Now Will is the type of guy that cannot leave a good
thing alone. Through a lot of leg work and calculations, along with a bit more leg work,
Will stumbled upon the modifications as we all know it: Suicide Springs. This
involved swapping the Duff progressive coils for softer flexier coils from a Jeep XJ
(Cherokee). Will retained the dual shock set up but had to do more leg work to find a set
of shocks to utilize the full potential of the Suicide Springs. Now that most
of the good stuff is there, we are just going to have to wait and see what other tricks he
has in his glove box.
So the next time you see this little Bronco catching up to you
on the trail, make way, because if you get too close you might get bucked off the trail.~TRS
