Back
in 2005 I registered the business name 'James Oaks Enterprises LLC' with
the State of Ohio, and obtained a business license to allow me to sell
automotive parts. At the time I was working with Joel (Copykat) to
produce differential covers and lift brackets. I used a DBA (Doing
Business As) 'TRS Fab & Off-Road' to operate the parts business, and
had 'The Ranger Station' and 'TRS Fab & Off-Road' operating under
the 'James Oaks Enterprises LLC' business name. Operating these under
James Oaks Enterprises LLC (Limited Liability Company) offers personal
protection against anyone that may want to file any suits against either
site by operating them as a legitimate business.
Near
the end of 2010 I signed up with a new distributor so that I could offer
parts for lowering Ford Rangers. TRS Fab & Off-Road simply wasn't a
good name choice for a business selling parts for lowered street
vehicles, so a name change was in order. Plus, using the TRS logo for
The Ranger Station and TRS Fab & Off-Road was just weird. After much
consideration I decided to simply drop the 'DBA TRS Fab & Off-Road'
and use the legal business name 'James Oaks Enterprises LLC' that TRS
Fab & Off-Road has operated under. This would keep me from having to
get a new business license and change any paperwork I have filed with my
current distributors.
I
also chose to separate the parts business from The Ranger Station and
not operate them under the same company anymore. I get offers every year
from people/corporations wanting to buy 'The Ranger Station'. I believe
it's because they see me as some guy with a hobby website and think I'm
going to jump at the opportunity to make a buck and sell my site. I also
think that companies don't take an interest in advertising here because
they just see it as a single site with a single owner and not a
professional organization.
In
2011 I will begin operating this site under the business name '959 Media
LLC'. Why 959 media?? During my career as a State Trooper I worked under
the Unit Number of 959. That's how I was identified on the radio, and it
became my nickname in the field. When I would walk in to a room at DHQ,
GHQ, or special operations, it was more common for people to say my unit
number when they saw me than to say my name. The number became very
symbolic to me, and when I retired from the state they gave me a
customized license plate that had 'OSP 959' printed on it with the
Highway Patrol logo. Heck, even my personal vehicle had 'SP 959' as my
personal license plate.
When
the time came to create a business name (LLC) to operate The Ranger
Station under, I tried to come up with some clever names, but ultimately
decided on 959 Media. 959 from my unit number/nick name, and media for
the type of business.
I
haven't taken the time yet to create a 959 Media LLC business logo. I foresee
a logo with 959 over the word Media with the 'a' being the top triangle
of a star. Or at least something to that effect.
How
will this effect the site? Not much. The Ranger Station is my baby and I
will continue to work to make it a popular site for enthusiasts to vist
and rely on for technical information.
