In the United States, Ford Ranger deliveries totaled 34,205 units in Q2 2021, an increase of about 37 percent compared to 25,008 units sold in Q2 2020.
In the first six months of the year, Ranger sales increased about 27 percent to 58,371 units.

Ford Ranger sales increased nearly 37 percent to 34,205 units in the United States during Q2 2021, enabling the midsize truck to remain in second place in its segment by sales volume.
First place went to the Toyota Tacoma, which outsold the Ranger more than two-fold, while the Ranger outsold the third place Jeep Gladiator by 4,243 units. The Nissan Frontier and Chevrolet Colorado, the fourth- and fifth-place finishers, trailed the Ranger by 18,593 and 19,429 units, respectively. Meanwhile, the GMC Canyon brought up the final spot with a mere 5,347 deliveries, nearly 30k units behind the Ranger.

In terms of segment share, the Tacoma held 42 percent followed by the Ranger with 20 percent and the Gladiator with 17 percent. The Frontier and Colorado took 9 percent each while the Canyon claimed 3 percent.
The mid-size mainstream pickup truck segment expanded more than 33 percent to 172,749 units in Q2 2021, meaning that the Ranger slightly outperformed the segment average.

The increase in Ranger sales during Q2 2021 allowed the nameplate to outsell all of its rivals except for one – impressive results for what is now the newest nameplate in the segment.
It’s worth noting that FoMoCo idled its Ford Michigan Assembly Plant, which builds the Ranger for North America, in March 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. Production resumed at the plant in May 2020 with new processes in place for COVID-related worker safety.
The plant was not impacted by the ongoing microchip shortage for Q1 2021 sales, though it was down again for the weeks of May 17th and May 23rd – which falls right in the heart of the second quarter. Despite these disruptions, the nameplate was still able to post a healthy increase in sales volume, and we expect Ford Ranger sales to carry this momentum through the second half of 2021 as long as supply levels remain unhindered.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that the two GM midsize trucks – the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon – were severely impacted by the ongoing microchip shortage. As a result, sales of the Colorado – which typically rivals the Ranger for second place – fell substantially during the quarter.
