Correction it was an '87 not '88!
Hey RichieRanger. Too bad you had to give up on your rig. That would've been cool.
And thanks for the kind words about mine. I've bought all kinds of stuff for my Ranger and would have had it together a couple years ago if I'd made a plan and stuck to it. As it sits its still a 2wd with a box full of axles. Two D60 fronts, and a piece of junk 60 rear.
The D44 front is me trying to get back on track. As much as I don't want to do it the same way as everybody else does I'm apparently not very good at breaking new ground. I had a champagne and caviar wishlist on a beer and pretzels budget. And not the good pretzels at that.

I'm having a mother of a time trying to find a right radius arm bracket. I might need to get creative with this detail too.

You can almost always find a decent Ranger when you decide to again. I hope you do. I like the way you think too. :icon_thumby:

As usual, this isn't going as well as I had hoped.

The missing radius arm bracket is proving very hard to find. I'm surprised its not available new.
Had a guy with a (chebby) 8 bolt Dana 44 return an email. I gave my number but since then, nothing. His ad is still up though.
I'd like to get outers onto this axle before it goes back outside. The ol lady is due back in a week. With the snow here, she'll want her garage back.

I had hoped to have the axle somewhat mocked in by now. I might have to resort to chebby 6 bolt outer stuff to button the axle together before its forced outside. I'm going to try the 8 bolt guy again tonight before going this route.

Ok I've found you one. It'll cost you an 18 pack of bud light and shipping though.

Rowdy. PM sent.

GM Dana 44 3/4 ton spec. Tag says 4.55 ratio. I haven't checked the BOM, not sure I will.
I think if I was a GM 4x4 guy this would be a nice score. I'm not though.

So, mostly cause I'm bored, I ran the BOM on the GM Dana 44 axle using the Ranger Station library. http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/pdf_documents/Dana-44_1967-1978.pdf (its on page 125)
The seller said it was a 1976 Canadian military spec axle but that there was nothing special about it except that it had the deepest gears it could be optioned with (in this case: 4.55's).
BOM: 603676 3.

It has external style hubs without lockouts. Should use the Warn 9072 locking hub.
Non Ford and non IH parts = learning curve.

Going to slow down a bit to do this right. I'm never happy with anything I slap together.

Yeah I know this is taking forever. Small paychecks in construction in winter. It sucks.
But tomorrow I'm picking up a 4.88 r & p for the D44. Kind of leaning towards the Yukon Grizzly locker but will cross that bridge when I get there. I currently have 3 open 3.92 & up carriers among my clutter. That might be a factor.

Now even though I'm going with the D44 to save a few bucks (compared to my wishlist of stuff for the kingpin 60 which is only on hold because of $$) I still want a decent axle. I'm planning 4340 chromo stubs and Stage 8 locking mechanisms for the external type Warn 9072 hubs. Inner axleshafts are undecided right now.
This is the current plan. Subject to change of course...

I've been trying to upload pix of my r & p for several hours. Photobucket is garbage. The only thing that works on it are the popups, popunders and spam to my email. Links aren't clickable - even right clicking to copy & paste fails. What a POS.

PN is YG D44R-488R. Never used. $200 cash. Ad is still up for some reason.: https://vancouver.craigslist.ca/rds/pts/5893024142.html

Can anyone recommend a replacement for Photobucket that works reasonably well?

Joined Flickr. Next pix will use that instead. Thanks for the recommendation.

Update:
I stumbled around for hours on Flickr trying to upload one photo. I could find the photo but absolutely couldn't do anything with it. Everything I did disappeared and had to be redone before disappearing again. It was just as frustrating as Photobucket but lacked eventual results so I ended up going back to Photobucket.
What a racket image hosting is. :temper:
