Finally got my clam chowder radio replaced thanks to grumpaw. He sent me a beautiful soup free replacement.

This is refreshing to see, and it's part of what makes this Ranger community a fun thing to be involved in. Especially in today's world of Facebook group a@#holes.

Yes, I too have found that I prefer soup-free radio equipment.

Now that the old one is free to tinker with im gonna experiment with soldering in an auxiliary input. Im sure its possible just trying to decipher the circuit board... and if i screw up it was junk anyway.

BlackBII did that in his Ranger if you dig thru his build thread. Older style radio though.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
In today's world of integrated circuits, teensy tiny surface mounted components and multi-layered boards with layers between the layers, it is, in my humble opinion, nearly impossible to reverse engineer the darn thing and figure out what you want to figure out. In the immortal words of Hyunh Phan, " Good luck to you."

You'll soon be taken to the Looney bin.

Eh I'm sure ill give up or accidentally set it on fire... I already have one of those bluetooth FM transmitters that does the same thing but ive always wanted an actual plug since bluetooth drains the battery on my phone faster. The other option is this gizmo.

His method hijacked the inputs for the tape deck, and I think it was pretty dependent on said tape deck being, well, there.

You should be able to find the amplifier, its the big part with fins, heat sink

It will have 6 wires, 12v and ground, and 4 smaller audio wires, Left and Right channels, hijack it there
Extend the 4 wires from the "radio" to the headphone jack and then 4 wires back to amplifier
Actually 3 wires since audio ground(-) can be combined

You need the type of jack that disconnects the 3 "radio" wires when head phone cable is plugged in, so it should have 6 connections
It may only have 4 or 5, left + and right + IN, and left + and right + OUT, and you combine - out
So the radio wires are disconnected from amplifier when you plug in to the jack and head phone cable is now connnected to amp
Volume control would now be from the phone or player

Ron, i was able to figure out where I needed to solder after alot of time with a magnifying glass. The board is labeled fairly well in mystically tiny fairy print...

But my soldering skills... not good enough for such little pins. Ended up burning the crap out of the board. But thats why I did it on a junk radio. Oh well. Still got a new working radio and Im definitely not messing with it. I'm just gonna get the goofy fm transmitter antenna adapter.
