Just yesterday I finally get around to wiring up my new stereo. When I first go to start my truck, I hear the speakers buzzing but the stereo is not illuminated, not on. I pull the stereo back out to find the harness adapter I bought had pins in the wrong place. I believe the fused ignition from the stereo was plugged into the always hot line and the always hot line maybe plugged into the ground, possibly plugged into the other battery line. Either way I correct the pins on the adapter and now the stereo turns on just fine but now I’m not getting any noise whatsoever from the speakers. Any ideas? I checked fuse 20 and 29, both were intact

did you check the 20amp fuse on the stereo deck itself? most aftermarket stereos have an external fuse, I'd check that, if it's good, see Dirtman's answer.

Damn... so what’s the fix? I know the speakers still work, I pulled one out and wired it up to my home stereo to test it. That gives me some optimism....

Is it possible you have one of the factory premium systems with an external amplifier?

Very possible. My truck is the STX, which from my understanding is the audio upgrade as well as the fog light trim. Later today I’ll be looking for the amp. Any idea where I might find it?

I don't know. As I recall it's behind the passenger kick panel on some years.

I took a look behind the kick panel and I’m pretty sure I found it. Do you know if it has its own fuse on it? I don’t want to take it out to look at it if I don’t have to.

I don't know. There may be nothing wrong with it at all. Do some searching on replacing a radio with that system. You may just need to wire in the turn on lead, or bypass the amp. Not sure.

pull it out and take a look at it. if nothing else, you may learn something about how your system is wired up, and go down the line. like fastpakr said, it might not be that but you eliminate that as the problem too.

Take a picture of it too. I'm getting conflicting info on whether it's there or next to the right rear speaker.

This doesn’t look like what I’m looking for if you ask me. The wiring diagram doesnt mention quite a few of these wire colors.

I fixed it. Forgot to plug in the P. Cont. because it was labeled as something else. Better late than never
