Could be a cracked manifold. Or the timing is ready to blow apart

You need to get a louder exhaust...

Mines always been a bit noisy. The 98+ versions like mine are known for it. I heard a few reasons from piston skirts to wristpins. Mine did it when I got it in 2003 and still does it with 182k. Never caused an issue.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Electric vehicles are generally much quieter all around.

I like to pretend mine's a diesel. After a while the carbon knock will drown out the other noises.

If your fan clutch is bad, it can sound like a 747 taking off.

They are. We had a particularly oblivious advisor at one place I worked, and I would make a game of seeing how close I could get to him in cars before he moved.

One day I got a hybrid into EV mode and got within an inch without him noticing. He jumped a foot when I hit the horn.

We play that game with my supervisor, but it's a little different...
He's pretty much deaf when the batteries in his hearing aids die and we use an air horn on a dump truck. You can get within a foot of him with a tri-axle sometimes.

I really don't know how to describe it it doesn't sound like a fan or anything abnormal it just sounds louder up at the motor compared to the exhaust

The way to rule out the fan clutch would be to remove the serpentine belt and start it up briefly. If it's quiet then there's your problem.

My money is that you have a walker exhaust. They're eerily quiet.
