I tried using the search feature but no luck does anyone know a part number for these plugs on a m5odr2? The parts store and rock auto didn't have them listed, ive seen on google some people use freeze plugs to sesl them. But why would that trans be made with them if you can just plug the with something else? So i was a little wiry about doing that. Google images photo below. My trans is back at my garage and forgot to take pictures.

Try this number 1L5Z-7A107-AA

The holes are there to remove and install the shift rails
I guess the rubber plugs are easier to install at the time of assembly than core plugs

The Rubber plugs deteriorate long after any warranty period so no skin off Ford's nose, lol, and usually only in drier climates, my 1994s plugs are still OK, but northern climate, wet :)
So really owners choice on replacement

5/8" freeze plugs will fit. Dorman makes them. NAPA sells them but had to order them when I bought a bunch last time. You can also goop a bunch of RTV onto your rubber plugs and reinstall them... either way works but I have always put freeze plugs in mine.

The choice to use rubber over metal was, like so many other things, made by accountants and not engineers. Unless you are trying to save a few cents per unit over a run of a few million units there is no good reason to use rubber here instead of metal.

Nothing but Fords
Use the 5/8ths steel cup plugs! It eliminates fluid loss that burns up the gears. The trans shop where I used to work did that on every trans they built and never lost one after the switch. I freshened one with 100,000 after the rebuild and the gears looked like new. Replaced the synchros and it was on it's way again. Came in the first time with 50,000 and was "toast" inside.

I RTV'd mine when I did the trans swap. But I live in Pittsburgh, which is essentially a rainforest. YMMV.
