So a buddy of mine has been struggling with a simple brake job. He is an electrician. I told him you fix the electrical problem on my ranger, I'll fix your brakes. Had him get the rig towed to my place.

We are struggling to find a matching hydro booster and master cylinder. From what he tells me, they make two different ones for this truck. So far, he mangled a hydro booster that did not fit right unless we loosened a giant lock nut and spun it. Then we couldn't seem to find a master cylinder that fit the booster, despite having a few different ones.

You know when you struggle with something so much, it makes you stupid? I think it did that to him. I finally reduced my advice to just get a master cylinder and booster that fit eachother. Anything close will work. He finally returned the hydra booster and various non fitting master cylinders, and is going to a legit brake supply shop today.

My question? What is with these trucks? Did they make a bunch of changes mid year?

How/why does this guy keep coming back with parts that dont fit? Is he dumb or autozone dumb? or both?

Also while searching for info, I read the ones for the vans fit and fit better. Besides that I did not find info non fitting parts.

Well I just may have idiot on my hands. Thought I would give an entertaining update.

He tells me in the morning he will be at 11:45. Calls me around noon says it will be an hour until the brakes show up. Its a few miles from
my place so I tell him come wait it out here. Meanwhile I am thinking to make sure all we need is a matching hydro boost and master cylinder.

I emphasized all we need is a matching set. Ill get it in the truck.

He shows up " dude the truck is a 2000"
Me: "uh yea. I saw that on your door looking up parts, what year did you think it was?"

He then proceeds to wash the girlfriends car....took off to fetch the parts. This was hours ago. Its well into afternoon now. I ate tacos.

His truck was in the way of my mine and helpers work today. POS.

Make up a time card for him to sign before he leaves, tell him "just take all the time you need"

Another entertaining update.

You ever wonder who in the conversation seems to be struggling with the english language?

I asked this guy 100 times if his old master cylinder was still good, never got a straight answer.

Once again he shows up with a new booster and master cylinder, this time they do match, but the brake lines dont. I forgot to mention to him to make sure the brake lines match too.

Instead of asking, I demanded "bench bleed your old master cylinder and put it back"

Strangely everything fit except the studs were too far apart, so I drilled out the mounting holes in his original master cylinder.

Got everything back together and he went behind the wheels with the vacuum bleeder. I walked away.

All said and done, still no brakes lol. He said he will be back today. I am thinking make him bleed all 4 wheels properly under supervision, then if that doesnt work, maybe waste an hour getting him proper parts. At least we were able to move it out of the way for now....

stay tuned for the next episode of Jackass Garage.

OK guys, thats a wrap!

He came back with more wrong parts. This time his gf brought him, and a voice of reason.

She is a cool chick and long time friend of mine, whom I met this knucklehead through.

If not for her, I wouldn't have bothered.

Anyways we were finally able to talk him dropping it off at a reputable shop near my place. he called AAA.

I might post the results of what they shop did...if its interesting.
