hey everyone so I have a 1988 Ford ranger with the 2.9l. I have had a rough go with it finally getting somewhere. So I had spark issue turned out to be a bad ECM replaced that song with new coil new spark plugs new wires new distributor and a new ignition control module. I had the trucks ignition timed by a shop and it fires right up but idles kind of high about 1500rpms. It idles okay but when you get on the road it is fine till about 2000 rpm’s and then it will sputter and buck and then an occasional backfire. If you give it a lot of throttle it backfires and falls on its face. It he barely any power aswell. I replaced IAC due to shop saying it was bad and the PCV valve asking with the PCV grommet as it was bad. Nothing changed. I want to note that the distributor has a slight whine noise when given throttle very faint. And the truck also idles great when spout is unplugged around 8-900 rpm’s. when it’s sputters and bucks while driving you can see tachometer dropping and sputtering aswell. Any info on what would be cause the horrible bucking and sputtering and no power would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
