The original muffler on my 2008 2.3L XLT, Extended cab, 5 spd developed a rust-hole in the bottom/rear. So I put a Magnaflow (stainless muffler) cat back system on to replace it. The system is neat sounding BUT the "highway drone" at 2000-300 RPM, and going up hills, got very annoying! I'd read about resonating parallel pipe installations or installing different types of sound-deadening materials , etc, as being the answer . But then I found the Hedman Hedders' Hot Tip (#17122) resonator exhaust tip. It's a 2 1/2 inch "in and out" direct fit design so I removed the stainless exhaust tip that came with the Magnaflow kit and replaced it with the Hedman Hot Tip resonator.
Amazingly, that's it. The droning is gone, the exhaust sounds real good and all it took was 10 minutes!http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/images/smilies/yahoo.gif
