looking at this 2001 mountaineer, see pic of problem.
I know this is catastrophic rust failure, but how difficult is this to repair?
not much experience with 4wd systems.

How much are they asking? Anything higher than free is too much.

You would need a donor frame to steal the crossmembers from and then welding, cutting, on the frame rail itself. To have a shop repair that damage would cost about 10 times what the truck is worth. Not to mention anything with rust damage like that is bound to have severe damage in other areas as well so you would just be sticking a bandaid on a turd.

ok, hmm. Ive been looking for v8 explorer for awhile. mostly gonna use the drivetrain out of it for my ranger. thanks for the reply

I poop in the furnace.
If your just stealing the drivetrain go for it. But don't pay more than its value in scrap because that's what it is. Even without frame damage is still an 18 year old suv. A few hundred bucks tops maybe 500 if its somehow a very low mileage engine and trans.
