Hi everyone, sorry if this is the wrong place to post this but I'm new here and need some assistance on my ranger.

Recently I've had to replace my intake manifold due to a vacuum leak. When pulling off one of the bolts I managed to strip the head to all hell. I decided to go find an appropriate sized bolt from my local hardware store to replace it. The style of the bolt is slightly different but the thread size and length of the bolt is the same so I thought it would work as a replacement. Now the vacuum leak is gone when idling or holding the throttle, however there's still a slight 'tss' sound for about half a second whenever I open the throttle body at all. It only lasts for about half a second but I'm still getting a p0171 lean code. Now I'm wondering if the different bolt could be causing this, or if I just got a defective remanufactured intake manifold from Rockauto. The intake manifold itself seems fine but I've included pictures of the bolts. Any assistance at all would be appreciated.

In 2001 the ranger had 2 different 2.3 engines. Early 2001 had the 2.3 lima sohc engine, late 2001 had the 2.3 duratec dohc engine. Which do you have?

Easy to tell, the lima is an iron block, duratec is aluminum.

Ok so it's an aluminum head. Take a can of starting fluid or brake cleaner and spray the area around the bolt you replaced while the engine is running. If the engine revs up slightly then you have a leak at that area... you have to be super careful with the dohc heads because for one its soft aluminum but you can also puncture a water jacket using a longer bolt.
