My truck has over 215,000 miles on it and I think one of its timing cassettes is making a high pitched squeal around 2,750 RPM. With this many miles, would it be best to just replace the engine with a re-manufactured engine?

I would be very sure the noise is internal engine, but if it is I would get a reman.

Look at the crank pulley first. The pulley can separate from the damper and it will cause a squeal, usually on start up, but I have seen it at higher RPM too.

If in the end you do replace the engine, do your homework and find a GOOD reman company. There are way to many BS places out there that do absolutely horrible work. Remanufactured use to mean a total rebuild, machining, and oem parts. Now you'll find alot of places that do little more than throw in some chinese bearings and spray paint the block...

Know any reputable good places to get a remanufactured one?
Would you find a place local or get one shipped?
How would you find and pick a local one?
Mine's a 93 4.0 ,do I need a 93-94 to replace it?
I'm going to need one done and don't wish to do it blindly,
I just hope not to wind up with a deal like i got from the tranny place, anything would help :)

I'd look for an RMP unit. They used to do the rebuilding for Ford.

Short of that I'd ask a local dealership what machine shop they use and then ask those guys if they do rebuilds.

The machine shop we use where I work is full service, up to and including removal and installation of your engine, if you want to pay for it.

adsm08 and Dirtman,
Thank you for the tips and suggestions. Also, I will check the crank pulley.
