I'm guessing one of two things happened. Either it just wouldn't go in, or somebody is still finding transfer case parts years later.
It was just like trying to drop a manual in gear but forgetting to put the clutch in. It ground for a second, shook the shifter, and then my instinct kicked in and my hand flew off the shifter.

Isn't that hard on the drive-train when you're on dry pavement?
IIRC "The Rat" never sees dry pavement and is used mostly to move firewood and brush around Andy's property.

My credo
it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
the module wants to see the listed wire grounded to go in and out of 4 lo.

if you leave it grounded it will shift into or out of 4 lo moving...or try.

damage sooner or later but i use to rolling 4 lo mine sometimes....manual or e shift.

Even in park my manual 1350 didn't want to go into low. I suppose the shafts couldn't shift around to line up when the trans output was locked in park... that's my theory anyway.

When the book said neutral, it had to be in neutral.
I found my issue was the neutral park sensor wasn't hooked up correctly. The new shift motor didn't have the wires for it. For now, I have the shift motor off so I can manually twist it into 4-hi or low in a pinch.
