Thank you for the additional info: saved to file...Went ahead and changed out the dash switch and the Transfer Case Motor even though they weren't my problem...Kept the old parts for spares because you never know!

I know my input was just a small piece of the overall puzzle, but in my case it got me going and cost me $0, so added my experience to the mix in case someone might benefit by it...My Ranger is a 2001 XLT with the 4.0l v6/auto trans and has 150k miles...Bought it new in '02, and so far it has been least trouble/most dependable I have ever had with a vehicle, and I'll keep it until the wheels get square...Cheers!

My early studies on that switch motor led to one remark that said a lot of the problem in their failure was a simple 25cent plastic or nylon washer inside somewhere that got a flat side due to non-use if I remember correctly, and the simple fix was to go in there and flip it over.
I also never went into mine, just got another one, but also as well kept the original.
I've rebuilt plenty of starters and alternators and solenoids in the past so don't see one as being any problem, more likely on a level with earlier solenoids, which were the simplest, and easily rebuilt

One of the tutorials I looked at while figuring out what was wrong with mine...

Didn't need it turned out, but good to know...
