4wd Oil Filter Relocation Location

Anyone have good out of the way spots to relocate the oil filter that keeps it out of harms way?

Right now I have it on the bracket that the evap canister used to reside on the DS of the radiator support... but I would like to put that back in to get the fuel tank venting correctly (PO bypassed it and I never took the time to figure out how it was hooked up until recently)

The outside of frame is obvious... but I worry about a branch coming up and whacking it in addition to flying gravel pummeling it. Inside of the frame would probably be safer but it will make a huge mess running down the frame when the oil filter is removed.

Would one of the factory adapters used on the Explorer 5.0's work? There were a couple of versions (early was liquid cooled, late was just an adapter).

When I did mine... I put it on the drivers core support. I know mine still had the evap canister... I just don't remember which side of the engine compartment it was on.

I don't think so, I would have to pull the engine to try it.

Thats the best I have come with, it is going to dump oil inside the frame and make a big mess when I remove it is the biggest downfall I have thought of though.

Mine is mounted sideways behind that curvy front crossmember. No ill effects so far, and oil changes aren't that bad. Sure, it spills oil on the backside of the crossmember, and the hoses continue to drain on it for a while, but I just keep a can of brake clean handy and spray it off. On the bright side, it does make oil changes pretty easy. The filter is easy to reach for sure.

Older first gens don’t have that curvy crossmember, I am going to explore the inside of the frame more though.

So speaking of oil stuff my i have a dual sump pan and a 98 explorer pan im going to be using 4.0 mounts with adapter plates from ricks rangers they were cheap so i figured I would try them but im in the same boat now with the oil relocation kit that I can see that wont work with the exploder setup

Is that the swoopy crossemember that is almost like a deflector to keep stuff out of the steering?

Maybe that is a 2wd thing, I always thought they were on newer trucks than mine but if your '83 has it maybe not. I don't spend much time under 2wd's to really notice.
