So I finally got around to getting the front axle upgraded.

I pulled the knuckles, brakes and RCV shafts from my full width d44 in my truggy.

Then I gutted the Bronco axle and started swapping parts.

And I threw the Aussie locker in.

I bought a new shorter EB d44 passenger inner shaft from RCV and the driver side I cut .600 off the end.

I bought a new set of Warn Premium hubs and the RCV 30 spline adapter gears. I had the diff cover powder coated and threw it all back together.

So truck was all set at this point and I loaded it up for Silver Lake Bronco Takeover.

Soooo an awful lot has happened since my last post here .......lets just say alot has happened recently!
I did add some new touches..

Went and spent a weekend at Rocks and Valleys. Full vid on my channel

I ended up ordering a new custom trailer and a new F250

Spent a weekend in Grayling with the Glass City Crawlers for Snow Way Dude event..

Then about a month ago I decided to make some serious changes before a planned trip to Wellsville Ohio.
I concerted the motor over to Microsquirt efi so I can tune it myself now. Full vid on my channel.
And upgraded the exterior just a tad.....Full vid on y channel.

Looking good.

How do you like the microsquirt? Is it easy to tune? I’m planning on running stock explorer ecu but have concerns the ecu will get angry with me since I don’t have a transmission hooked up to it and no rear o2 sensors (I was able to drive it around the block a couple times so at least it starts and runs the engine). Tuning options for it aren’t as cheap as I’d like either...might end up less expensive in the long run to just get an aftermarket ecu like you’ve done.

I love MS and have been using them and tuning them for myself and other people for almost 10 year now.. The vid on my channel shows how simple it is to install and get up and running. They are very user friendly but if you have zero experience with one it real helps to have somebody that knows the systems to help walk you through the setup and break down the tuning process. Recently I have found tons of really good vids on youtube of people breaking down the different parts of the MS systems like basic setup, building timing maps.fuel maps.digging into the extra features...etc.
You dont need any of the factory O2s or the MAF and with a wide band O2 it will self tune in real time. The kit I used will not plug into an Explorer harness so using a Foxbody harness is plug and play.

Thanks, good information.

Do you have a wideband o2? I haven’t looked in a while but the last time I recall they were pretty expensive, about $150. Do you need two or will one do the job? Do you put it in the stock location or new location a bit downstream so it gets both banks exhaust?

You dont have to use a wide band with MS but you would be giving up the main benefit of using MS by not using a wideband. At roughly $150 I wouldnt call a wide band expensive for the benefits they bring to your tuning ability. You only need to install one sensor and you can put it basically anywhere in the system you want. Mine currently is installed in the driver side pipe right off the header.

Well, to put things in perspective, I think $25 is a lot of money! I’m also thinking about total cost of tuning, $150 on top of a $300 ecu puts me in a similar territory as the cost of doing a quarterhorse seteup plus associated hardware and software. If I can keep the factory ecu running and happy I’ll probably just keep it as is for now but it’s something I know I’d like to change at some point so I’m trying to understand what else is out there.

I really enjoyed reading this entire thread! Truth be told, i am pretty disappointed that i reached the end haha. Every post made me more jealous of your Bronco, but even moreso jealous of your abilities!

Thanks for sharing your journey!
